Anthony Schwartz
Anthony Schwartz Participating in minicamp
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 6:51 PM
Schwartz participated in Cleveland's mandatory minicamp last week after recovering from an undisclosed injury, Scott Petrak of the BrownsZone reports.
Analysis: Schwartz returned to practice during the team's mandatory minicamp after working on the side during OTAs. The 2021 third-round pick has found himself buried on the depth chart, and could find himself competing for a roster post heading into the start of the season.
Miller Forristall
Miller Forristall Slots in as No. 3 tight end
Fri, May 6, 2022, 12:27 PM
Forristall slots in as the Browns' No. 3 tight end following the 2022 NFL Draft, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Forristall appeared in just two games with the Browns in 2021 and signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January. Cleveland is expected to utilize fewer sets with multiple tight ends this season, so the 24-year-old is unlikely to see a major uptick in snaps in 2022.
Inks deal with Cleveland

The Browns signed Santos-Silva as an undrafted free agent Monday.
Analysis: Santos-Silva actually was a basketball player in college, averaging 4.7 points and 4.1 rebounds across 37 games at Texas Tech during the 2021 season. His size (6-foot-7, 250 pounds) clearly is appealing to Cleveland, which may evaluate his ability to serve as a blocking tight end.
Chase McLaughlin
Chase McLaughlin Competition comes via draft
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:07 AM
McLaughlin will be challenged for the starting placekicker job after Cleveland selected Cade York in the fourth round of the 2022 Draft, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: McLaughlin appeared to stabilize the Browns' kicking woes early in 2021 but faded in the second half. He converted six of 12 field-goal attempts from Week 7 and beyond and finished just 4-for-10 from between 40 and 49 yards. Enter York, the first kicker drafted and considered the top one on the board, who was successful on 15 of 18 attempts for LSU last season, including 5-for-7 from 50-plus yards. McLaughlin enters offseason activities as the incumbent, but the job will be York's to lose.

The Browns selected Deaton in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 246th overall.
Analysis: A center out of Texas Tech, Deaton made 35 starts in his collegiate career. He's big for a center at 6-foot-5 and 306 pounds and could potentially slide to guard if necessary. Ethan Pocic's job is safe in Cleveland, so Deaton stands to develop as a backup early in his career.
Seventh-round pick for Cleveland
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 4:37 PM
The Browns selected Thomas in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 223rd overall.
Analysis: Thomas isn't exactly small at 6-foot-5, 266 pounds, but he is a tad skinny and lacks reach by defensive end standards (33 and 1/4-inch arms). That's the bad news, but the good news is Thomas has noticeable speed (4.7-second 40) and was productive for Oklahoma the last two years, generating at least eight sacks and double-digit tackles for loss each year.

The Browns selected Woods in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 202nd overall.
Analysis: After adding David Bell earlier in the draft, the Browns continued to add depth to their receiving corps by nabbing Woods out of Oklahoma. Woods began his career at Arkansas and transferred to OU to be part of a more explosive passing game. He never caught more than 35 passes in any of his four college seasons and averaged 14.0 yards per reception. Woods isn't a burner with 4.55 speed at 204 pounds, but he has a solid skillset as a possession receiver. He will likely have to fight for a roster spot as a rookie.
Joins crowded Cleveland depth chart

The Browns selected Ford in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 156th overall.
Analysis: It's unclear how Ford will carve out playing time after joining a Browns running-back room filled to the brim with talent, but the redshirt junior was a star for Cincinnati last season, tallying 1,319 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns en route to first-team All-AAC honors. The 22-year-old really has solid lateral agility and a good burst through the hole when he sees it, but Ford isn't exactly a tackle breaker and lacks vision near the line of scrimmage. At the very least, Ford should be a solid special teams player and could emerge as a quality backup in spot starts, similar to teammate D'Ernest Johnson.
Cleveland selects in fourth round
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 12:08 PM
The Browns selected York in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 124th overall.
Analysis: Kicker selections are rarely exciting, but York was a good one at LSU and boasts range at or pushing 60 yards. York's field goal percentage was 77.8 percent or better in each of his three seasons, so he has both range and accuracy as he steps into the Cleveland lineup.
Lands in Cleveland

The Browns selected Winfrey in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 108th overall.
Analysis: This was a nice bit of value for the Browns given some projected the Oklahoma product could be an early Day 2 selection. Winfrey is a bit undersized as a conventional nose tackle (290 pounds), but he's got some of the longest arms out of this entire class of defensive linemen and certainly has a motor to disrupt upfield.

The Browns selected Bell in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 99th overall.
Analysis: Before the combine, Bell was considered a fringe first-round prospect after putting up impressive numbers in three seasons at Purdue. Bell stepped into the No.1 role in the offense in place of the injured Rondale Moore as a true freshman and recorded 86 catches for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns on 131 targets. He had a strong season in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign and was impressive again as a junior with 93 catches for 1,286 yards. Despite the strong track record of production from an early age, Bell's testing sent his stock tumbling. Bell ran a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash and tested below the 40th percentile in his jumps at 6-foot-1, 212 pounds. Bell will be an interesting test case because of the combination of his stellar production and concerning lack of athleticism. Cleveland already has Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones, but Bell could eventually carve out a role as a possession receiver in the underneath game.
New addition to Dawg Pound
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 9:19 PM
The Browns selected Wright in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 78th overall.
Analysis: Wright was a three-year starter at UAB but is still viewed as a developmental defensive end at the NFL level. He didn't do any athletic testing to put definite numbers on his speed, but the assumption is he has standout athletic traits to mold at 6-foot-5, 271 pounds.
Heading to Dawg Pound
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 8:44 PM
The Browns selected Emerson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 68th overall.
Analysis: Emerson (6-foot-2, 201 pounds) is a big corner out of Mississippi State who figures to focus on the boundary corner position. This selection might not be a good sign for former second-round pick Greedy Williams -- also a 6-foot-2 boundary corner for the Browns -- because neither Emerson nor Williams will steal reps from Denzel Ward or Greg Newsome at corner.
Taking reps, remains on schedule

Coach Kevin Stefanski said Conklin (kneecap) is taking part in the Browns' voluntary offseason program and "working really hard," Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
Analysis: Stefanski said Conklin's recovery still is on schedule, though he doesn't have an anticipated date by which the starting right tackle will be at full health. It looks like the Browns remain optimistic about the two-time first-team All-Pro's chances of being ready for Week 1. He's recovering from December surgery.
Finds new home

Rochell signed a contract with the Browns on Wednesday, Chris Krispinsky of WKBN reports.
Analysis: Rochell spent last season with the Colts, after spending the previous four seasons with the Chargers. A 2017 seventh-round selection, Rochell was less involved with the Colts then he was with the Chargers, seeing a four-year low in games played, snaps and sacks. The 26-year-old will likely fill a depth role on the Browns defensive line this season.
Javon Wims
Javon Wims Joins Browns
Wed, Apr 20, 2022, 3:55 PM
Wims signed a contract with the Browns on Wednesday, Chad Krispinsky of WKBN reports.
Analysis: Wims hasn't seen action on gameday since 2020 with the Bears, after spending the majority of last season on the Raiders practice squad. The 2018 seventh-round selection appeared in 33 games, recording 28 catches on 56 targets for 266 yards and two touchdowns during his three seasons with Chicago.
Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield Absent for voluntary program
Tue, Apr 19, 2022, 11:39 AM
Mayfield (shoulder) wasn't present Tuesday for the start of the Browns' voluntary offseason program, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Mayfield's absence was anticipated, as he's still rehabbing from surgery on the labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Moreover, it's expected that the Browns will look to trade Mayfield following the team's addition last month of fellow quarterback Deshaun Watson. Per Cabot, of the franchises potentially in the mix for Mayfield's services, the Panthers may have the best chance to deal for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson Present for offseason workouts
Tue, Apr 19, 2022, 10:40 AM
Watson is in Cleveland on Tuesday for the start of the Browns' offseason program, while fellow quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) isn't in attendance, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: As expected, given that Mayfield reportedly requested a trade in mid-March when the Browns were revealed to be pursuing Watson, who ultimately chose Cleveland over Atlanta and New Orleans. The Browns still have a few things to hash out in their QB room before Week 1, starting with a possible NFL suspension for Watson and a trade to find Mayfield a new home. Potential fits for Mayfield include Seattle and Carolina, though it isn't clear either team is willing to give up anything significant for the 27-year-old QB. Watson, 26, is still facing civil suits for allegations of sexual misconduct, after a Harris County, TX grand jury voted not to indict him on criminal charges in March.

Weatherly signed a one-year contract with the Browns on Monday, Anthony Poisal of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Weatherly was traded by the Vikings to the Broncos last season and registered 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks across 15 total appearances. The 2016 seventh-round pick figures to garner a similar role during the 2022 campaign.
Re-signs with Cleveland
Mon, Apr 18, 2022, 4:36 PM
Day signed a one-year contract with the Browns on Monday, Anthony Poisal of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Day made seven appearances for Cleveland last year and totaled 21 tackles, two pass deflections and one sack. The 2016 fourth-round pick figures to garner a similar role again in 2022.
